Truth be told I can only recall having a Gimlet once and it was when i took a few sips of my mom's gimlet one night ... this led me to sneak a taste of that glowing green bottle of Rose's hiding in their liquor cabinet which in turn led me to not make such a mistake again.KeithPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06066691829767062879noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-617966887138253806.post-49181999659904061512010-09-21T00:10:13.353-04:002010-09-21T00:10:13.353-04:00Favorite this-is-not-a-Gimlet story. I was concerned but took a sip to make sure. We asked the waiter to come back, and explained that it was not a Gimlet but a glass of cold gin. He was very English and apologetic and had to ask what else it had in it, an ignorance for which he apologized as well. I explained that there was really only one other ingredient. He agreed that finding some Rose’s was the least he could do to make it a Gimlet. It was reassuring to see it come back with that faint but unmistakable green glow.Rowenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15835972705727030948noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-617966887138253806.post-33628503003933826112010-09-20T09:37:20.401-04:002010-09-20T09:37:20.401-04:00I agree that it's not authentic without Rose&#...I agree that it's not authentic without Rose's, but I also think it's not any good with Rose's.Camper Englishhttp://www.alcademics.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-617966887138253806.post-38720665706002668552010-09-17T19:14:18.276-04:002010-09-17T19:14:18.276-04:00It's scary to think that someone would use Ros...It's scary to think that someone would use Roses in lieue of lime juice, but I guess it does happen.

Great post.Matt Hamlinhttp://www.ajiggerofblog.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-617966887138253806.post-32265733238942327252010-09-17T09:01:59.969-04:002010-09-17T09:01:59.969-04:00Agreed, Doug. Assuming one doesn't always go to craft cocktail bars, bartenders that are willing to squeeze a lime are few and far between, though that's changing ever so slowly. (Perhaps it's because they're tired of getting snacks thrown at them.)DJ HawaiianShirthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00282879189919576765noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-617966887138253806.post-3113644936373795182010-09-17T07:30:22.808-04:002010-09-17T07:30:22.808-04:00For what it's worth, Doug Winship is with you ...For what it's worth, Doug Winship is with you that a Gimlet is only a Gimlet with Rose's. Doug Winship doesn't particularly like Gimlets, but he does use Rose's lime juice in his Kamikazes (along with fresh). Interestingly, just as you could make a Gimlet-like thing w/o Rose's that is only Gimlet-likeish, the same goes for Doug's Kamikaze.

All that said, Doug has more problems with bartenders reaching for the Rose's when he specifies lime than he does with bartenders trying to avoid using it. Doug recommends keeping the bar snacks close at hand to throw at said bartenders to prevent Rose's from entering a real cocktail....Doug Winshiphttp://killingtime.com/Pegu/noreply@blogger.com
